Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church 2891 Orange Street, Marianna, FL with Rev. Ronald D. Mizer, Pastor, Rev. Douglas Jones, Rev. Leroy Hall, Rev. Hollis McClendon, Presiding Elder James H. Davis and Pastor Adrian Staley, officiating.  Interment in the Antioch Cemetery. Vann Funeral Home was in charge.

She leaves to cherish her loving and precious memories:

Bishop Raines was the Pastor and founder of the United New Jerusalem Church of Jesus Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Florida. He was also the Chief and Founder of United New Jerusalem Church of Jesus Christ, Incorporated.

Homegoing services were held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. The Reverend Doctor Ernest J. Only of Marianna, Florida transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

The Reverend Doctor Only was a member of the Greater Buckhorn Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired United States Air Force veteran. To know him was to love him. 

Homegoing Celebration services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM from the sanctuary of the New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church located at 2155 Highway 73 in Marianna, Florida where the Reverend Mark Dudley is the pastor with the Reverend Deblasis DeRon Johnson, the Reverend Dr. Samuel Everett, Minister Tony Hall, the Reverend Adrian D. Abner, and Pastor William Harvey officiating. Interment in the Buckhorn Cemetery in Marianna, Florida. Vann Funeral Home in charge.

Tensley L. Couch, Sr.

Deacon Tensley L. Couch, Sr., age 93, a lifelong member of the Poplar Springs Community in Marianna, FL, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 9, 2017 in Orlando, FL.

Deacon T.L. Couch Sr. was a devoted member of the Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Senior Deacon upon his demise.

He was one of the oldest living Veterans in Jackson County.  He was drafted into the United States Army at a young age and fought in World War II and the Battle of the Bulge under the Command of General Patton.

Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. from the sanctuary of the Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church located at 2662 Poplar Springs Road Marianna, FL 32446 with Reverend Freddie Roulhac (Pastor), Reverend Randy McMillan and Reverend Robert Buttler, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Vann Funeral Home will be in charge.

A viewing will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Vann Funeral Home.

Glendora Peggy Brunson Thomas

Mrs. Glendora Peggy Brunson Thomas, age 56, of Lynn Haven, FL formerly of the Holy Neck Community and the granddaughter of the late Tom Keys, transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on April 5, 2017 in the Bay Medical Center of Panama City, FL.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Panama City, Florida and employed by the Lynn Haven Fire Department. She was a 1978 graduate of Marianna High School.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at the Holy Neck Missionary Baptist Church 3395 Cemetery Rd. Campbellton, FL 32426 with Rev. Richard Peterson, Pastor, Rev. Henry E. Taylor, Rev. Felix Long, Jr., Elder James Russ and Rev. James Keys, Officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Vann Funeral Home will be in charge of the service.

The viewing will be held on Friday, 14, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Vann Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Thomas will lie in repose at the church from 11:00 A.M. until time for the service.

Mr. Eddie Poke of Miami, Florida passed away on Saturday, April 7, peacefully with his family at his bedside. He was 91 years old. He was the husband of the late Earnestine Robinson Poke formerly of Marianna. He was a longtime member at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Miami. He expressed that he wanted to go back to his old church, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. His request was granted on April 1 in a brief ceremony in his hospital room under the leadership of Pastor T. T. Shellman, Sr.

He loved to sing and for more than 60 years traveled the Southeastern United States with his quartet group, the Sons of Faith (originally The Rising Sons). He was noted for his deep bass voice and often came to Marianna to visit family. Upon each visit, he would readily accept invitations to sing. He was captured on video just hours before his passing singing one of his favorite songs, “Where Will I Be When That First Trumpet Sounds”. Moments later, he answered the Master’s call.

Local survivors include: his Brother-in-law, Minister Earnest Robinson; a niece, Brenda Jones and her husband Pastor Michael L. Jones; nephews: Howard Robinson and Calvin Clemmons. 

Celebration of Life services were held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Goulds, Florida with Jay Funeral Home of Perrine, Florida in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Roscoe Cheese, of Pensacola, FL transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Friday, April 21, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was a member of the Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church and a graduate of Bethune-Cookman University and Florida A&M University.

He was a coach at Booker T. Washington High School and Counselor at Escambia High School.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 12 Noon at the Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church 201 W. Leonard St. Pensacola, FL with Elder Dr. Bernard C. Yates, Officiating

Joe Morris and Sons Funeral Home, Pensacola, FL, will be in charge of the service.

Interment will be in the Holy Cross cemetery, Pensacola, FL.
